A British story of dissent, drawn from the frontlines of climate resistance. Through the experiences of those who stood in defiance, it traces the quiet unraveling of our protest rights.
The film documents the emergence of the campaigning group Defend Our Juries as they form in solidarity around Trudi Warner when she is arrested for contempt of court. Trudi's crime? Silently holding a banner outside the court informing people of a legal truth: jurors may acquit according to their conscience.
Running parallel is the story of Marcus Decker, a climate protester who climbs 60 feet up the QEII bridge and unfurls a Just Stop Oil banner — an act for which he receives the longest prison sentence for a protest-related offence in the UK at that time.
As hundreds of Just Stop Oil supporters engage in slow marches and direct protest actions, the government pushes through sweeping anti-protest legislation. Arrests, house raids and long sentences follow. When the UK public vote in a new government the campaigners win their demand to stop the granting of new oil and gas licenses, but at what personal cost? And will the new government rollback the anti-protest laws or go harder?
